The 1448 AH Umrah season opened at the end of May 2026. Saudi Arabia has made the process more digital, and every Umrah visa is now linked to confirmed bookings. Here is what pilgrims travelling from Nigeria need to prepare.
1. The visa
Citizens of around 66 countries can apply for an Umrah visa online by themselves. Nigeria is not on that list, so Nigerian pilgrims apply through a licensed Umrah agent. Your application must be linked to:
- A hotel approved on the Nusuk platform
- Pre-booked ground transport in Saudi Arabia
- Your confirmed return flights
The government visa fee is SAR 300, plus mandatory medical insurance of around SAR 100 to 180, which is attached to the visa automatically.
2. Season dates (1448 AH)
- Last date for visas to be issued: 9 March 2027
- Last date to enter Saudi Arabia: 23 March 2027
- Last date to depart: 7 April 2027
Overstaying can lead to fines and affect future applications.
3. Vaccinations
Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Health lists these requirements for Umrah pilgrims travelling from Nigeria:
- Meningitis (ACYW): required for every pilgrim. A conjugate vaccine must be given within the last 5 years, or a polysaccharide vaccine within the last 3 years, and at least 10 days before you arrive.
- Yellow fever: required for travellers older than 9 months. The certificate is valid for life, starting 10 days after vaccination.
- Polio: at least one dose of inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) before travel, whatever your age or previous vaccinations.
Keep your vaccination card with your passport. Your doctor can advise on anything else you need for your health.
4. Nusuk on your phone
Download the Nusuk app before you travel. You use it to book your Umrah permit and your time slot for the Rawdah in Madinah. Permits sell out in busy periods such as Ramadan, so book as early as you can.
5. What to pack
- Ihram garments (for men) and comfortable, modest clothing
- Comfortable sandals or shoes for long walks on marble floors
- Medication in its original packaging, with a doctor's note if needed
- A small bag for your shoes in the mosques, and a refillable water bottle
- Printed copies of your visa, hotel bookings and vaccination card
