A family holiday abroad is one of the best memories you can give your children. A little planning makes the journey as enjoyable as the destination. Here is the checklist we share with families before they travel.
6 to 8 weeks before
- Passports: every child needs their own passport, valid for at least six months after your return date.
- Visas: children need visas too. Apply for the whole family together so the applications move at the same pace.
- Vaccinations: check what each destination requires and keep everyone's vaccination cards with the passports.
- One parent travelling? Airlines and immigration officers may ask for a signed consent letter from the other parent. Carry one to avoid delays.
When you book
- Choose flight times that match your children's sleep. Daytime flights are often easier with toddlers.
- Ask for seats together when you book, and request a bassinet for babies on long flights.
- Pick a family-friendly hotel with a pool, connecting rooms or a family suite.
- Book an airport pickup, so nobody has to queue for a taxi after a long flight.
Packing for the plane
- Snacks, a refillable bottle and a change of clothes for each child
- Headphones, a tablet with downloaded shows, and a small new toy as a surprise
- Any medicine your children take, in its original packaging
- A light jacket, as planes and airports are often cold
On the day
- Arrive at the airport three hours before an international flight.
- Keep passports, visas and bookings together in one folder, with printed copies and photos on your phone.
- Take photos of your children in the morning, so you know exactly what they are wearing if you get separated in a busy airport.
Let us handle the details
We plan family trips every week: visas for every family member, seats together, family rooms and a driver waiting at arrivals. Tell us your dates and your children's ages, and we will do the rest.
Rules and prices change. This guide was checked on 23 October 2026; we always confirm the latest requirements before you pay.
